Original Law & Order: Criminal Intent creator brings long-running franchise to iconic Canadian city

Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent is a procedural crime TV series created by René Balcer for Citytv. It serves as a Canadian spin-off of Law & Order: Criminal Intent created by Balcer and Dick Wolf which ran for ten seasons from 2001-2011 and was set in New York City. The original Law & Order series ran for 20 seasons between 1990-2010. It was ultimately revived in 2021. Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent depicts criminal activities "ripped from the headlines" and marks the first ever spin-off from the seminal franchise set in a Canadian city. Besides the original series, the six other TV shows that boast the Law & Order name are Special Victims Unit, Criminal Intent, Trial by Jury, LA, True Crime and Organized Crime.

Balcer is an Emmy-award winning writer and has worked on virtually every Law & Order series including the original alongside SVU, CI, UK and LA. He's also written for the popular CBS series FBI before creating its successful spin-off, FBI: Most Wanted.

Rookie Blue co-creator Tassie Cameron and Wanda Chaffey serve as producers on Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent. Holly Dale, David Wellington, Peter Stebbings, Sudz Sutherland, Rachel Leiterman, Winnifred Jong, Sharon Lewis and David Straiton are all directors on the ten-episode series.

Aden Young (Rectify) stars in Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent as Det. Sgt. Henry Graff. He is joined by Kathleen Munroe (FBI) as Det. Sgt. Frankie Bateman, Karen Robinson (Mary Kills People) as Insp. Vivienne Holness, K. C. Collins (Saving Hope) as Deputy Crown Attorney Theo Forrester, Nicola Correia-Damude (Shadowhunters) as Dr. Lucy Da Silva and Araya Mengesha (Anne With An E) as Mark Yohannes.
