Synopsis

Ex-convict seeks revenge in a corrupt and spiritually-declining Mumbai

After being released from prison in Mumbai, a former inmate finds himself in an unknown and transformed environment. He observes how excessive corporate greed has led to widespread poverty and how spirituality is declining throughout society. Feeling hopeless about starting a new life, he decides to use his newfound freedom to track down individuals who had harmed him in the past. Motivated solely by a thirst for revenge, he is driven by his righteous anger and frustration.

Dev Patel makes his directorial debut in action-thriller he also stars in and co-wrote 

Monkey Man is an action-thriller film directed by Dev Patel for Universal. Patel is a remarkable talent in Hollywood starring in such acclaimed films as Slumdog Millionaire, Lion and Hotel Mumbai. Monkey Man marks his directorial debut. Patel not only directed the film, he also produced it and co-wrote the screenplay with Paul Angunawela and John Collee. He is the lead in the film as well, indicating how important Monkey Man is to Patel as he juggles an incredible amount of responsibility with it.

Other producers on the film include Basil Iwanyk, Samarth Sahni and Jomon Thomas. Iwanyk has produced a number of popular action franchises including every Expendables installment and the entire John Wick franchise. He also produced the Patel-led Hotel Mumbai.

Dev Patel stars as the lead NRI Monkey Man. Sharlto Copley stars alongside him as American Monkey Man with Sikandar Kher as Indian Monkey Man and Sobhita Dhulipala rounding out the cast.
