Iconic Nintendo game Super Mario Bros. returns to the big screen

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is an animated film created by Nintendo and distributed by Universal Pictures. The movie is based on Nintendo’s iconic video games following the Italian plumber Mario and his friends in the Mushroom Kingdom. Illumination, the computer animation studio behind the Despicable Me franchise is teaming up with Nintendo to bring Super Mario Bros. to life. There have so far been two screen adaptations of this beloved video game, including Super Mario Bros. This movie is the third adaptation. 

Teen Titans Go! creators Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic direct The Super Mario Bros. Movie, with a screenplay written by Matthew Fogel. Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) voices the protagonist Mario, Charlie Day (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) plays Mario’s brother Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit) is Princess Peach, and Jack Black (School of Rock) is the dastardly Bowser. Comic actor Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele) voices Toad, and Seth Rogen (Superbad) rounds up the cast as the voice of Donkey Kong.
