Richard Madden to return to lead role in second season of The Bodyguard
Bodyguard season 2 is the upcoming season for the British political thriller TV series created by Jed Mercurio for BBC One. The series revolves around Police Sergeant David Budd, a British Army veteran who is struggling with PTSD and currently employed by the Royalty and Specialist Protection Branch of London's Metropolitan Police Service. His job is to serve as the principal protection officer (PPO) for the ambitious Home Secretary Julia Montague, whose political views he disagrees with. Throughout the series, controversial topics such as government surveillance of private information and its regulation, the politics of intervention and terrorism, and PTSD are explored in depth. Bodyguard premiered in August 2018 and garnered the highest viewing figures for a new BBC drama in the multichannel era. Additionally, it achieved the highest BBC viewing figures since 2008.
Richard Madden will reprise his role in the second season as PS David Budd, a Scottish veteran who served in the Afghanistan war and is now a committed Principal Protection Officer (PPO) working at Protection Command. It is expected that other actors in the supporting cast will reprise their roles including Gina McKee as Commander Anne Sampson, who heads the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command. Sophie Rundle as Vicky Budd, Budd's separated spouse and mother of their two kids. Nina Toussaint-White as DS Louise Rayburn, a Counter Terrorism officer who seems to have faith in Budd despite the investigation against him. Additionally, Ash Tandon as DCI Deepak Sharma, a clever investigator who suspects that Budd is collaborating with the terrorists.
