The story behind India’s first ever deadly aerial attack
Celebrated actor Akshay Kumar has partnered up with Maddock Films and Jio Studios for his next big action film. After the blockbuster success of OMG 2, the Bollywood superstar is all geared to headline the aerial action thriller Sky Force, which is set to release in theaters exactly a year from now on 2nd October, 2024.
The actor shared the release date, and a 55 second teaser video on his personal Instagram account with a heartfelt caption, “आज गांधी-शास्त्री जयंती के दिन सारा देश कह रहा है - जय जवान, जय किसान, जय विज्ञान, जय अनुसंधान. (Translation: On the auspicious day of Gandhi Jayanti the entire nation is cheering for our soldiers, farmers, scientists, and research.) Is Sky Force based on a true story?
The 55 second teaser video of Sky Force, and Akshay Kumar’s Instagram caption both confirm that the movie is based on India’s first aerial strike which took place on September 6th, 1965. The teaser video opens with a real-life snippet from one of Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri’s public speeches where he’s seen talking about about India’s resilience and the countries intention to stand tall in face of war, this is followed by captions which confirm that the movie will document the events of India’s first and deadliest air strike.
The film is set in the backdrop of the Indo-Pakistan war of 1965, and this movie is most likely going to document the story of Marshal of the Indian Air Force, Arjan Singh, the man responsible for ordering the Air Strike against Pakistani Forces. Here is what the official Indian Air Force website has to say about the real-life events that inspired this film, “Our boys were in like a flash and in no time the whole place was ablaze with burning enemy tanks and vehicles. The morale of our force was just wonderful…. I am sure the enemy will never forget the Mystere.”
The Cast and Crew of Sky Force
In addition to being headlined by Akshay Kumar, a celebrated actor known for picking up character heavy movies with roles inspired by true stories, this movie will also mark the acting debut of Veer Pahariya. Veer is the grandson of the famous Indian politician Sushilkumar Shinde, and the ex-boyfriend of Bollywood A-lister Sara Ali Khan. So far, the filmmakers have only confirmed Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya’s involvement in the film. The rest of the casting details are yet to be revealed.
Jio Studios and Maddock Films have roped in directors Sandeep Kewlani & Abhishek Kapur to direct this aerial action thriller. Director Sandeep Kewlani has also lent his writing expertise to work on the screenplay for this film.
