We are looking for Data Engineer who can support us in creating the movie and TV show discovery experience of the future. Our data infrastructure consists of a Snowplow data pipeline feeding into Redshift, as well as several other ETLs and dozens of data modelling steps on top. As the rest of our stack is residing on Google Cloud Platform, we're looking into options of migrating to a BigQuery and Airflow based data stack in the long term.
At least 1-2 years of experience with SQL data stores and multi-terabyte sized data sets, preferably with Redshift, BigQuery or PostgreSQL
You have an Engineering background with some backend and data skills (SQL plus a backend language, preferably Python or Go)
You are experienced wrangling data from all kinds of sources - JSON / CSV / ProtoBuf / REST / SOAP -> you've seen and debugged through your share of dirty and unreliable third party data
Skills around the Linux command line including basic networking and web technologies
Experience with ETL processes (we currently want to migrate from a thin self-written architecture to Airflow)
Solid code craftsmanship including great communication and writing code to be read by others
A practical view towards technology, sensibly choosing between cutting-edge tech and stable, boring solutions
Proven success in communicating with users, technical teams and other stakeholders to collect requirements, describe data modeling decisions and data engineering strategy
Fluency in Englishs
Pragmatic and analytical mindset
Ability to work onsite in Berlin
Taking full end-to-end responsibility for our Snowplow-based tracking pipeline
Building data models on top of raw event data to accelerate internal queries
Supervising and implementing ETL workflows
Working with our Infrastructure team to maintain, operate and extend the full data stack
Working together with the BI team and internal stakeholders to provide dependable analytics and reporting solutions
Support on strategic decisions, such as moving to different data warehouse and ETL technology
Owning and designing all data models and schemas and dealing with modern SQL (CTEs, constraints, transactions)
Excelling in an international and internationalized environment, caring for the needs of all our internal users in Berlin and Los Angeles
