Set in a world in which humans were genetically engineering the return of dinosaurs, Crichton's novel was ofinterest to the filmmaker Steven Spielberg who directed both the 1993 adaptation and the 1997 sequel The Lost World. The movies garnered huge acclaim, both critical and commercial with a special focus on the quality of theeffects and animatronics. The third movie in the franchise Jurassic Park IIIsaw Spielberg step back into the position of executive producer and hand over the directing to JoeJohnstone.
