Joy, Anger, Sadness, Fear, and Disgust have managed to find a glorious equilibrium, keeping Riley on an even keel as she finds her way in the world. But as Riley moves into her teen years, new emotions arrive on the scene, such as Anxiety and Embarrassment, that must be integrated if Riley wants to maintain internal stability.
Inside Out 2 is the upcoming second instalment in the animated coming-of-age film series produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Disney. The film continues the story of Riley and the cast of internal emotions living in her head as she grows into adolescence. The film is a sequel to 2015’s Inside Out, and is written by the same screenwriter, Meg LeFauve. Kelsey Mann helms the project in his directorial debut, having previously worked on other Pixar productions, including as a co-write for The Good Dinosaur.
Inside Out 2 sees some of the original cast of emotions return for the sequel, including Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, and Lewis Black as Anger. Tony Hale replaces Bill Hader as Fear and Liza Lapira takes over from Mindy Kaling as Disgust. Maya Hawke joins as a new emotion for Riley to reckon with, Anxiety. Kaitlyn Dias returns to voice Riley, the girl in whose head all of these emotions live.
Yes, the sequel to the first Inside Out continues the emotional story taking place in Riley's head. This time around, she's growing into adolescence, puberty is in full swing, and new emotions start to enter into her mind space that she must learn how to regulate.
