Several generations after Caesar, apes are the dominant species ruled with an iron fist by Proximus Caesar. As Proximus seeks to expand his empire, he meets unexpected resistance from a young chimp, Noa, who finds himself on a dangerous journey toward a truth that has the potential to change the future of apes and humans forever.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is a sci-fi action film produced by 20th Century Studios. The film focuses on the story of the revolutionary chimp Noa and his human friend Mae, who take on the reign of the tyrannical Proximus Caesar. The film is a sequel to 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes and is the fourth instalment overall in the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Wes Ball, who is known for his work directing the Maze Runner trilogy. The screenplay is written by Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes writers and producers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, alongside War of the Worlds scribe Josh Friedman.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes features a whole new cast of characters, including a new protagonist chimpanzee, Noa, played by Owen Teague. Teague is known for his roles in the American series Bloodline, Mrs. Fletcher, and The Stand. Freya Allen (The Witcher) joins him as a woman named Mae, while Kevin Durand (The Strain) takes on the role of Proximus Caesar, the new tyrannical leader of the apes. Peter Macon plays Raka, a wise orangutan and friend to Noa. Other cast members include William H Macy, Travis Jeffery, Lydia Peckham, Eka Darville, Neil Sandilands, Ras-Samuel Weld A'abzgi, Dichen Lachman, and Sara Wiseman.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes takes place 300 years after its prequel, War for the Planet of the Apes. Because of this time jump, both Caesar and his son Cornelius do not appear in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes was released in UK cinemas on May 10, 2024.
