21 Best Ben Affleck Movies and Where To Watch Them

Published on

Ben Affleck has been a mainstay in Hollywood for over thirty years.

The Academy Award winner made a significant mark in the industry, featuring in over a dozen films from the late 1980s to the 2000s. He later transitioned to a successful directing career, particularly following the release of Gone Baby Gone in 2007. Before this milestone, he played notable roles in the 1990s, appearing in such enduring classics like Dazed and Confused, Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Good Will Hunting. The latter, co-written with lifelong friend and creative partner Matt Damon, earned him his first Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. At the time of writing, he holds the distinction of being the youngest recipient of the Original Screenplay Oscar, having achieved this feat at the age of 25.

Affleck’s ascension into becoming one of Hollywood’s finest working directors

After starring as the leading man in several blockbuster productions including Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, The Sum of All Fears and Daredevil, Affleck made his feature directorial debut with Gone Baby Gone which starred his brother, Casey. Critics praised the actor’s direction with star Amy Ryan eventually earning an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. He went on to direct four other films including The Town in 2010 and 2012’s Argo before taking a break until 2016 with Live by Night and 2023’s Air.

Argo went on to earn seven Academy Award nominations. The film won three including Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing and the night’s biggest honor: Best Picture. Chris Terrio crafted the screenplay for it which marked the beginning of his partnership with Affleck, leading to the actor-director's involvement in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

Battfleck and beyond

In 2016, Ben Affleck joined the DCEU portraying one of the most iconic characters in all of fiction, Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He went on to play the character throughout 2023, appearing in five films while also starring in non-DC titles like The Accountant, Triple Frontier, The Way Back, The Last Duel and Deep Water.
