Rachel Zegler and Nicole Kidman voice daughter and mother in animated film from Shrek director
Spellbound is an upcoming musical-fantasy film directed by Vicky Jenson for Netflix. Jenson is an Academy Award-winning director whose 2001 animated masterpiece Shrek, which she co-directed with Andrew Adamson, won the very first Oscar for Best Animated Feature. She previously co-directed 2004's Shark Tale along with Post Grad in 2009 and has been involved in the development of numerous animated titles including FernGully: The Last Rainforest and Chicken Run. Spellbound is co-written by Lauren Hynek, Elizabeth Martin and Linda Woolverton, who previously wrote the screenplay for 1991's Beauty and the Beast which went on to become the first animated film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. Woolverton is a celebrated and established screenwriter whose previous credits also include The Lion King, Alice in Wonderland and Maleficent.
Hollywood veteran and Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken handles the music duties on Spellbound. Menken has crafted some of the most iconic scores for Disney including The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Pocahontas. Producers on the film include John Lasseter, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Bruce Anderson.
Rachel Zegler leads the film as Princess Ellian. She has previously starred as Maria in West Side Story. Academy Award winners Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem reunite to play Queen Ellsmere and King Solon, respectively. The duo last portrayed Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz in Being the Ricardos. The rest of the cast includes John Lithgow as Minister Bolinar, Jenifer Lewis as Minister Nazara Prone, Nathan Lane as The Oracle of the Sun, André De Shields as The Oracle of the Moon, Jordan Fisher as Callan and Tituss Burgess.
