Wes Anderson brings back some favourite collaborators while adding new star power for Asteroid City
Asteroid City is a sci-fi romance produced by Indian Paintbrush and American Empirical Pictures. The film is written and directed by iconic indie filmmaker Wes Anderson, known for his singular colour palette choices, eccentric costumes, and deadpan characters. Some of his other works include The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Royal Tenenbaums, and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Asteroid City’s plot is based on a story Anderson wrote with director Roman Coppola. The filmmakers previously collaborated on The Darjeeling Limited, The French Dispatch, and Moonrise Kingdom — the latter of which brought them both an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Alexandre Desplat writes the music for the film, while Academy Award-winner Milena Canonero designs the costumes.
The cast for Asteroid City includes many previous Wes Anderson collaborators, including Jason Schwartzman, Adrien Brody, Edward Norton, Willem Dafoe, and Tilda Swinton. Joining them are acting legends Tom Hanks and Scarlett Johansson, as well as Bryan Cranston, Jeffrey Wright, Liev Schreiber, and Maya Hawke. Other key players in Asteroid City include Steve Carrell, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, and Jeff Goldblum.
