Timothy Chalamet takes on the role of the eccentric young Willy Wonka in Warner Bros.’ big screen musical production
Wonka is a musical fantasy film produced by Warner Bros. The film is based on the character of Willy Wonka depicted in Roald Dahl’s children’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Luke Kelly and Alexandra Derbyshire produce alongside David Heyman, the latter of whom was the first to secure the film rights to the Harry Potter books. Wonka is directed by Paul King, best known for his BAFTA-nominated work on the Paddington films. Simon Farnaby writes the screenplay, having previously worked with director King on Paddington 2. Chung Chung-hoon acts as cinematographer, and is primarily known for lending his talents to the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Welsh costume designer 1999 Best Costume Design Oscar-winner Lindy Hemming creates the unique Wonka styles as head designer, while Neil Hannon writes the original songs for the film.
Award-winning actor Timothée Chalamet plays the titular Willy Wonka, leading a cast of immense talent, including Hugh Grant as Oompa-Loompa, Sally Hawkins as Wonka's mother, Paterson Joseph as Slugworth, and comedians Keegan-Michael Key, Richard Fulcher, and Rowan Atkinson. Acclaimed actresses Olivia Colman and Sally Hawkins also star alongside Mathew Baynton, Jim Carter, and Tom Davis.
