Jim Belushi began his on-screen career by starring in the sitcom “Who’s Watching the Kids?’ (1978–1979) before landing on “Saturday Night Live” (1983–1985) and starring in the main cast for seasons 9 and 10. He is known mostly as a comedy actor, with some of his early roles including “Trading Places” (1983), “Little Shop of Horrors” (1986), “Red Heat” (1988), and “K-9” (1989). Not content to be typecast, however, Belushi also starred in the Oliver Stone-directed war drama “Salvador” (1986) and the Italian political thriller “Dimenticare Palermo” (1990). His career throughout the 90s continued with leading roles in movies such as “Mr. Destiny” (1990), “Separate Lives” (1995), “Gang Related” (1997), and returning for the sequel movie “K-911” (1999). His other major roles include “The Ghost Writer” (2010) from filmmaker Roman Polanski, “The Whole Truth” (2016) and “Change of Heart” (2017). He went on to appear in “Wonder Wheel” (2017) and Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut “The Chronology of Water” (2025). Belushi has guest starred on a variety of different series, and was a recurring cast member of the third season of “Twin Peaks” (2017). He is the subject of the three season documentary “Growing Belushi” (2020–2023) which aired on the Discovery Channel.
