Sinopsis

New York za vrijeme Adventa dok grad obilježava Dan zahvalnosti i priprema se za skoru proslavu Božića. Kad vidi da unajmljeni Djed Božićnjak posrće od alkohola, ambicioznoj se Doris Walker (M. O'Hara) učini da je sve propalo. Ona je organizatorica proslave Dana zahvalnosti i božićnih događanja u njujorškoj robnoj kući Macy's, energična mlada žena koja pijanom djedici mora hitno pronaći zamjenu. Slučajno odabere Krisa Kringlea (E. Gwenn), simpatičnog starca duge bijele brade koji se odmah svidi njezinoj kćerkici Susan (N. Wood) i kojem odijelo Djeda Božićnjaka stoji kao saliveno. Kris ubrzo počne tjerati kupce pričom o previsokim cijenama i tvrdnjom da je on pravi Djed Mraz, čime isprva izazove nezadovoljstvo Dorisina šefa Juliana Shellhammera (P. Tonge).
