Starring in countless major productions between Hollywood and Brazilian cinema, Wagner Moura is a celebrated actor and filmmaker. He has been recognized for his early work in Brazilian cinema, including “The Three Marias” (2002), “The Middle of the World” (2003), “Carandiru” (2003), and “God is Brazilian” (2003). He rose to prominence in Brazilian cinema with appearances in movies such as “Lower City” (2005), “Elite Squad” (2007), and “VIPs” (2010), all of which also helped put him on the map internationally. Moura made his Hollywood debut by starring in “Elysium” (2013), directed by Neil Blomkamp, and continued to star in Brazilian movies such as “Serra Pelada” (2013) and “Futuro Beach” (2014). He made his directorial debut with the movie “Marighella” (2019), an arresting political portrait of the Marxist-Leninist guerilla Carlos Marighella. He went on to star himself in a biopic drama, “Sergio” (2020), in which he portrayed United Nations diplomat, Sergio Vieira de Mello. Moura was cast in the Russo Brothers thriller “The Gray Man” (2022) and went on to star in Alex Garland’s political drama “Civil War” (2024). He teamed up with renowned Brazilian director Kleber Mendonça Filho for the critically acclaimed historical thriller “The Secret Agent” (2025). One of Moura’s most recognizable roles is his outstanding performance as Pablo Escobar in the series "Narcos" (2015–2016) and “Narcos: Mexico” (2018–2021). He also starred in a main role in the series “Shining Girls” (2022) and “Dope Thief” (2025).
