Synopsis

The lives of two teenagers on either side of Nazi-occupied France intersect at a crucial moment

The Nazi regime in occupied France is brutal and relentless. For Marie-Laure and her father Daniel, their form of resistance is to rescue and keep safe a legendary diamond from falling into Nazi hands. But they need to evade the pursuit of a Gestapo officer who will stop at nothing to find it. The blind teenage girl and her locksmith father find refuge with her great uncle, Ettienne, a veteran suffering from severe PTSD who is communicating with the resistance via secret radio transmission. Meanwhile, a young German orphan, Werner Pfennig has joined the frontlines in France. Technically gifted, Pfennig is horrified by all he sees happening around him and struggles with what he is being forced to do. When he uncovers secret transmissions, he has a huge decision to make, one that will shape the lives of everyone around him.
