Exploding Kittens premieres on Netflix in 2024.
Exploding Kittens is an upcoming adult-animated comedy television series on Netflix. The series is based on the popular card game which sees participants draw cards until an explosive cat card surfaces. Holding this card eliminates a player unless they get a defuse card. These cards feature celebrated cat antics like laser pointers and catnip sandwiches, and enable players to avoid the impending detonation.
Shane Kosakowski and Matthew Inman are the series' co-creators. Kosakowski, known for his work on shows like Archer and You're The Worst, teams up with Inman, the original creator behind the Exploding Kittens game. Inman takes on the role of an executive producer for the TV series, joining forces with Chernin Entertainment and the veteran comedy pairing of Mike Judge and Greg Daniels of Bandera Entertainment. The latter duo has left a lasting mark on comedy TV with such iconic shows as Beavis and Butthead, King of the Hill and The Office.
Tom Ellis voices the lead in Exploding Kittens as GodCat. Ellis is recognized for his portrayal of the fallen archangel Lucifer in the titular series which aired on Fox from 2016-2018 before its revival on Netflix from 2019-2021. Joining Ellis in the cast are Lucy Liu, Abraham Lim, Ally Maki, Mark Proksch, David Gborie and Sasheer Zamata.
A new version of the card game was revealed before the release of the television series. It is called Exploding Kittens: Good vs Evil and features characters from the television series such as the main character Godcat.
Exploding Kittens has a TV-14 rating due to the inclusion of alcohol and drugs, some profanity, references to sex and nudity and some frightening scenes.
