Cynthia Erivo is a musician and actress who is one of few people in the world of entertainment to have been nominated for an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony Award (EGOT). She rose to prominence with her portrayal of Celie in the Broadway musical “The Color Purple” (2015–2017). She made her big screen debut with a simmering performance in Steve McQueen’s “Widows” (2018), which she quickly followed up with a key role in “Bad Times at the El Royale” (2018). Erivo teamed up with director Kasi Lemmons for the Harriet Tubman biopic “Harriet” (2019), in which she starred in the lead role. Her performance in the miniseries “Genius” (2021), in which she played musician Aretha Franklin, is one of her career standout roles. Erivo starred as Elphaba Thropp in the epic musical movies “Wicked” (2024) and “Wicked: For Good” (2025), for which she was roundly praised and decorated with multiple awards. She has continued to star in theater productions, including “Jesus Christ Superstar” (2025), in which she starred in the lead role, and “Dracula” (2026), a production in which she plays all 23 parts live on stage.
