Considered one of the greatest Japanese filmmakers of the modern era, Shinji Higuchi is best known for co-directing the kaiju classic “Shin Godzilla” (2016) and its follow-up “Shin Ultraman” (2022). His filmmaking career began with the war drama “Lorelei” (2005), and was followed up with the disaster movie “Sinking of Japan” (2006). Before working as a director he was known as an SFX director and storyboard artist which saw him work on a slew of science fiction and animated movies including “Evangelion” (1995) and “Gamera: Guardian of the Universe” (1995). This multi-award-winning director specializes in epic set pieces, incredible special effects and powerful character-driven stories that take place in high-stakes situations.
