Blade is an upcoming superhero film directed by Yann Demange for Marvel Studios and Disney. It is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name originally created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan and serves as the sixth film in Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Blade makes his highly anticipated debut in the MCU in this film, serving as both the character's debut appearance and a reboot following the original 1998 film which starred Wesley Snipes as the titular character. Demange is best known for directing such titles as 2014's '71 and White Boy Rick in 2018. The screenplay for Blade is written by Michael Starrbury, who co-wrote the Netflix miniseries When They See Us, alongside True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto. Blade reunites Pizzolatto with lead Mahershala Ali after previously working on the third season of True Detective.
