Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie tackle performative philanthropy in A24 series starring Emma Stone
The Curse is a comedy TV series created by Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie for Showtime and Paramount Plus. It is also written by the duo alongside Carrie Kemper who previously worked with Fielder on The Rehearsal. Fielder is best known for his absurdist style of comedy, showcasing his immense talent at uncomfortability in such works as Nathan For You and the previously mentioned, The Rehearsal. He also graduated from one of Canada's top business schools with really good grades.
Safdie has co-directed a number of films with his brother Josh, most notably being 2017's Good Time and 2019's Uncut Gems. Both projects were distributed by indie studio A24 which is also one of the production companies behind The Curse. Fielder directs on The Curse along with Nathan and David Zellner.
Academy Award winner Emma Stone stars in The Curse as Whitney Siegel, one-half of the reality series couple. Stone won the Best Actress accolade in 2017 for La La Land and has previously appeared in Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) and The Favourite; both works earned her Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actress. Fielder portrays Whitney's husband, Asher, while Safdie plays the producer of the HGTV-inspired series, Dougie Schecter. Corbin Bernsen, Barkhad Abdi and Constance Shulman round out the cast.
