Paul Weitz burst into prominence with the raunchy-yet-relatable hit “American Pie” (1999), which he co-directed with his brother Chris Weitz. Paul then proved his solo chops with “About a Boy” (2002), a witty and warm tale that earned him an Oscar nomination. He’s since dabbled in everything from vampire drama (“Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant” [2009]) to political satire (“American Dreamz” [2006]) and heartfelt indies like “Grandma” (2015), starring Lily Tomlin. Weitz has also made waves on TV, directing episodes of “Mozart in the Jungle” (2014–2018) and “Modern Love” (2019–2021). More recently, in 2025, he’s taken his sci-fi game to the next level with Apple TV+'s adaptation of writer Martha Wells’ “Murderbot.”
