Synopsis

Thunderbolts: Misfit rogues answer Avengers' absence

The Thunderbolts serve as a group of misfit rogues who are called upon by various agencies when the Avengers are unavailable. Bucky Barnes, also known as the Winter Soldier, is on a continuous journey of redemption and assumes the role of the de facto leader among the Thunderbolts. John Walker, known as U.S. Agent, may be seeking to atone for past mistakes by joining the Thunderbolts. The lineup also includes the super-spy Yelena Belova and her father figure, Red Guardian, who is a super soldier. Taskmaster, a superhuman capable of imitating others perfectly, and Ghost, a being with the ability to quantum jump and become intangible, complete the team. With most traditional superheroes engaged in missions across various dimensions and universes, there is a significant demand for superhuman defense. This group of mercenaries, though sometimes morally compromised, is now the most dependable force for the task at hand. However, the question remains whether they can remain united or if internal conflicts will fracture them before the mission's end.

    • It is revealed there are a number of connections between Thunderbolts and the Netflix series Beef - Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier also helmed a number of Beef episodes, Beef creator Lee Sung Jin worked on the upcoming film's script and lead Beef star Steven Yeun plays a pivotal character in Thunderbolts. Those working behind the scenes includes Beef editor Harry Yoon alongside the show's production designer and art director, Grace Yun and Michael Hersey, respectively, tackling their own respective roles on the film. Schreier also teased a narrative connection between the comic book film and dramedy series: "I think if you look at something like Beef what makes it what it is is that it's so specific on so many levels. Sonny (Lee Sung Jin) brought so much of himself to it, Ali and Steven, everyone, and in being that specific, it becomes something universal. And I think that's sort of similar to the way that we're looking at Thunderbolts is that there is a real clear take and perspective on these characters, and there's a specificity to it that."
