Andy Muschietti returns to helm IT prequel series for Max
Welcome to Derry is an upcoming horror TV series developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs for Max. It serves as a prequel series to Muschietti's successful IT films from 2017 and its 2019 sequel which were based on the celebrated Stephen King novel of the same name. The films track the curse afflicting the town of Derry and the monstrous clown responsible. When Ben (Jeremy Ray Taylor) shares his discoveries with fellow "Losers Club" members during the initial film, he reveals that Derry originated as a beaver trapping camp. He adds that all 91 individuals who signed the Derry Township charter vanished during that winter, leaving a trail of clothes leading to the old well house. Since Pennywise only reemerges every 27 years, he devotes his time to tormenting and brutally killing children.
Andy Muschietti returns to direct several episodes of Welcome to Derry including the pilot. He has also helmed the 2013 supernatural horror film Mama along with The Flash in 2023. His sister, Barbara Muschietti, joins him in the writer's room alongside co-showrunners Jason Fuchs (who also co-produced IT Chapter Two) and Tokyo Vice writer Brad Caleb Kane. These four also serve as executive producers on the series alongside Shelley Meals and original IT producers, Roy Lee and Dan Lin.

- It is confirmed that a prequel series of the hit horror film, It, is in development at HBO Max. Currently titled Welcome to Derry, original director Andy Muschietti is attached to the project as executive producer and director of at least the first episode.
