David Opie is an entertainment writer, columnist and film enthusiast with a special interest in horror, animation, and LGBTQ+ storytelling. He has been writing professionally about film and television since 2014, attending numerous panels and film festivals worldwide.
Experience and Education
David is a TV and film writer at JustWatch. His experience includes working for five years as the Deputy TV Editor at Digital Spy where he created Rainbow Crew, a LGBTQ+ interview series that celebrates queerness on both sides of the camera. Since then, David has written regularly across a wide range of outlets including Indiewire, Empire, Paste, Radio Times and more. In 2024, he started a LGBTQ+ column at Yahoo UK which he continues to write weekly.
David is a graduate of the University of Sussex, where he received a BA with honours in Psychology and Film Studies before completing a PGCE in Primary Education at the University of Brighton.

Some of David's favourite movies include Perfect Blue (Satoshi Kon), Yi Yi (Edward Yang), Flee (Jonas Poher Rasmussen), Halloween (John Carpenter), Safe (Todd Haynes) and C.R.A.Z.Y. (Jean-Marc Vallée). He also enjoys popular franchises such as Marvel and Drag Race as well as Buffy, his all-time favourite series.
