Kristin Davis, star of And Just Like That…, addresses the drama surrounding Kim Cattrall in the lead up to the season 2 launch. Despite best efforts, Davis makes it clear that mending the relationship between two of New York City’s most famous women is anything but simple.

Sex and the City appeared on screens in 1998 and revolutionised what a female-led television series could look like. It follows the adventures of writer Carrie Bradshaw and her three best friends, Miranda Hobbs, Charlotte York and Samantha Jones, as they live it up in New York City. Known for its incredible fashion, flirtatious flings and delicious cocktails, Sex and the City quickly became one of the most successful shows on television.

With six seasons of the original Sex and the City show, two movies, and now a reboot series, the lives of these four women have become household names around the world. True to the show, these women have also faced their fair share of scandal off-screen as well.

In recent news, viewers were shocked to hear that Kim Cattrall will be making a cameo in And Just Like That… season 2. This marks a massive moment for Sex and the City fans, who have been waiting years for this moment. This doesn’t mean that all is well, however. Cattrall’s scene was filmed without seeing or speaking to any of the cast.

Kristin Davis confirmed the tension regarding Kim Cattrall saying “You have to respect people’s wishes. I’m not gonna waste energy on it. I can’t change anybody. I do understand fans’ feelings - that they’re upset… I wish I could fix it, but I can’t. It’s not in my power.” It seems some wounds run too deep, and the possibility of a peace treaty is far-reaching.

The feud between Kim Cattrall and series star Sarah Jessica Parker has long been rumoured. In 2004, when series 7 was not renewed, Cattrall spoke publicly about her disappointment in the salary negotiations saying “I felt after six years it was time for all of us to participate in the financial windfall of Sex and the City.” The disagreements between Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker have made many appearances in the news since then, lasting nearly 20 years to date.

Cattrall later signed on to star in the Sex and the City and Sex and the City 2 movies. When discussing the possibility of a third Sex and the City movie, however, Kim Cattrall announced in 2016 that she would not reprise her role as Samantha Jones again, voicing disappointment with the writing and portrayal of her character.

When And Just Like That… entered development years later, Cattrall wasn’t invited to return. Her character Samantha is still featured in the story, but only through text messages with Carrie. Until now…

Although it may not be the reunion we had all hoped for, the fact that Samantha Jones is reappearing on our screens is a massive win for all Sex and the City fans. While we wait for the big reveal, here’s everything you need to know before watching And Just Like That… season 2

And Just Like That… season 2 is available to watch on Sky Comedy and NOW from Monday 22 June.
