Gina Chick hosts Alone Australia season 2 on SBS
Alone Australia season 2 is the second season of SBS’s survival reality television series. The show became the public broadcaster’s largest show to date, with more than a million viewers per episode. The second series of Alone Australia sees ten new contestants compete for a $250,000 prize. The winner is the contestant who survives the longest. Alone Australia is a spin-off of the American Alone survival franchise.
While the first season was filmed in Tasmania, season 2 will take place in the South Island of New Zealand. Joseph Maxwell, Head of Unscripted Programs at SBS, said that this was partly due to Tasmania’s strict hunting regulations which limited the contestant’s ability to survive. The move to New Zealand will allow contestants to use a bow and arrow, and also allows the show to tell more First Nations stories.
Gina Chick, a rewilding facilitator who won the first season of Alone Australia, returns as the host of season 2. She also hosts a weekly companion podcast released concurrently along with episodes of the show. The podcast gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the trials of surviving in the wilderness.
