Synopsis
A retelling of the terrifying real-life 1972 Andes flight crash
In the frigid Andes, a Uruguayan rugby team experiences a nightmare ordeal when their plane crashes, leaving them on a glacier. Stranded amid freezing temperatures that can plummet to 40 degrees below zero, they are unable to connect with the outside world. It takes more than two and a half months before help finally arrives, showcasing an incredible tale of survival that astounds all who hear it.

Society of the Snow (La sociedad de la nieve) is a Spanish survival thriller film directed by J. A. Bayona for Netflix. It is based on Pablo Vierci's book titled "La sociedad de la nieve (The Snow Society: The Definitive Account of the World's Greatest Survival Story)" wherein sixteen survivors of the crash shared their experiences with Vierci. Many of the survivors knew the author since they were children. Bayona co-wrote the screenplay with frequent collaborator Bernat Vilaplana, Jaime Marques and Nicolás Casariego. Bayona's previous directing credits include The Impossible, A Monster Calls and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
Veteran composer Michael Giacchino scored the music for Society of the Snow. He has received numerous accolades throughout his illustrious career including an Academy Award for Best Original Score for 2009's Up along with a nomination in 2007 for Ratatouille. His other credits include Lost, The Incredibles, Cloverfield, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Jojo Rabbit and The Batman, just to name a few.
Society of the Snow stars many new actors from Uruguay and Argentina. Enzo Vogrincic Roldán stars as Numa Turcatti, Matías Recalt as Roberto Canessa, Agustín Pardella as Nando Parrado, Tomas Wolf as Gustavo Zerbino, Diego Vegezzi as Marcelo Pérez del Castillo, Esteban Kukuriczka as Adolfo "Fito" Strauch, Francisco Romero as Daniel Fernández Strauch, Rafael Federman as Eduardo Strauch, Felipe González Otaño as Carlitos Páez, Agustín Della Corte as Antonio "Tintín" Vizintín, Valentino Alonso as Alfredo "Pancho" Delgado, Simón Hempe as José Luis "Coche" Inciarte, Fernando Contigiani García as Arturo Nogueira, Benjamín Segura as Rafael "el Vasco" Echavarren and Rocco Posca as Ramón "Moncho" Sabella.
