In 2009, while the world was reeling from the swine flu epidemic, a Finnish game company, Rovio Entertainment, decided to give people an outlet for their frustration by launching a game where players could fling a group of angry birds at evil pigs. Angry Birds went on to achieve over 5 billion downloads, becoming one of the most downloaded mobile apps ever and building an impressive nest in the competitive world of gaming, rivaling even legacy franchises like Mario and Sonic.
Rovio Entertainment knew the golden egg of opportunity lay in expanding its comical characters further, giving them their own lives and storylines through movies and TV shows. This vision led to a fun, animated, and expansive universe filled with green-bellied pig armies and short-tempered, geometric birds. Check out the list below for a detailed guide to every Angry Birds movie and TV show ever made.
Angry Birds Toons (2013)
Angry Birds flung into the world of television way before The Angry Birds Movie, debuting back in 2013 with Angry Birds Toons, a short-form animated TV series that expanded the Angry Birds universe. The show follows Red, the temperamental leader of the flock, along with the other colorful birds in his tribe, as they come up with creative ways to protect their eggs from the pigs who want to steal them. Each episode also features side quests for the birds, adding depth to their characters and laying the foundation for future movies and TV shows.
Piggy Tales (2014)
When Rovio Entertainment first set out to expand its games into television and films, it had its sights set on creating a stop-motion animation-style series or movie, but it knew this would take some time. Piggy Tales, the company's second animated series, fulfilled this vision by featuring funny one minute clips of the minion pigs trying and failing to complete basic tasks. This fun, short, and lighthearted series leans into slapstick humor with its silent stop-motion animation style.
Angry Birds Stella (2015)

The series focuses on young Stella as she and her friends embark on adventures together and fight to avoid the evil traps laid by their former friend and the Queen of the minion pigs, Gale.

Red soon finds himself leading the charge against their new neighbors, the pigs, who are secretly hatching an evil plan to destroy the birds. Red bands together with his friends to put a stop to their scheme, save their home, and hopefully win the trust and love of his flock. With a budget of roughly $75 million, The Angry Birds Movie became the most expensive Finnish film ever produced at the time of its release. The film received mixed reviews but still grossed $352 million worldwide.
