Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali marks his OTT debut with Netflix's regal period-drama, Heeramandi
Heeramandi is an upcoming period-drama directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Bhansali known for his grand and majestic films such as Devdas, Ramleela, and Gangubai, is making his OTT debut with this series which revolves around the lives of three generations of courtesans living in the infamous kothas of Heera Mandi in Lahore. The filmmaker has been working on adapting this story since the last 14 years and the series pays a tribute to other period-drama masterpieces such as Pakeezah, Mughal e Azam, and Mother India. The series is based on a story by Moin Beg, which has been adapted to a screenplay by writers Mitakshara Kumar, Snehil Dixit Mehra, and Vibhu Puri.
The series revolves around a powerful all-female led ensemble featuring Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Manisha Koirala as the regal courtesans. They're joined by Fardeen Khan, Paresh Pahuja, and Tarun Arora in undisclosed supporting roles.
