From drama to comedy, the best of the best on television has been officially binge marked: The 77th Emmy Awards nominations are in! Severance is leading the pack with a total of 27 mentions. Hot on its heels is the limited drama series The Penguin, waddling in with 24 nods. The White Lotus and The Studio aren’t far behind with 23 nominations each.

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards air on 15th September, 2025, giving you plenty of time to catch up, binge responsibly, and make your own dream picks before the statuettes are handed out. The Best Emmy-Nominated TV Shows of 2025

1. Severance (2022)

Apple TV’s dystopian sci-fi workplace drama, Severance, has been the undisputed star at this year’s Emmy, securing 27 nominations, including Drama Series, Writing for a Drama Series, Production Design, Casting, Choreography, Cinematography, Directing for a Drama Series (Ben Stiller and Jessica Lee Gagné), Picture Editing (three times), Title Design, Music Composition, Music Supervision, Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Adam Scott), Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Britt Lower), Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (three nominations: Zach Cherry, Tramell Tillman and John Turturro), Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Patricia Arquette), Guest Actress in a Drama Series (three nominations: Jane Alexander, Gwendoline Christie and Merritt Wever), Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Special Effects, and Stunt Performance.

With several nominees within the same category, the Severance cast and crew will be competing against each other. This year’s nominations prove especially standout for Jessica Lee Gagné, who became the first ever woman to be nominated for both Best Cinematography and Best Directing For A Drama Series in Emmy history.

Severance is set in a dystopian future where employees undergo a surgical procedure called Severance, which splits their memories between work and personal life into two parts. After suffering a personal loss, Mark Scout, one such employee, begins to question the system, unravelling a deeper mystery that challenges the ethics of free will, identity, and corporate power. The show’s second season was released earlier this year, bringing the series back to the top of global streaming charts and making it a top contender in this year’s awards season race.

2. The Penguin (2024)

DC Comics’ limited series The Penguin has become the second most Emmy-nominated comic book series of all time, coming in as runner-up to the DC series Watchmen, which received 26 nominations at the 72nd Emmy Awards in 2020. Set in the gritty crime world of Gotham City, The Penguin is a limited series that focuses on the rise of Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin, one of Batman’s most iconic villains.

3. The White Lotus (2017)

HBO’s powerhouse resort murder series The White Lotus returned for its third season, this time taking viewers to the vibrant islands of Thailand. Set in the fictional White Lotus, each season follows a new host of guests and their intertwined lives, as their seemingly perfect holiday spirals into chaos as hidden desires, and secrets come exposed.

A consistent Emmy darling, the show continued its hot streak with Season 3 receiving 23 nominations, matching the tally of Season 2, and bringing its total Emmy nominations to 66 across three seasons. In addition to a nod for Outstanding Drama Series, Jason Isaacs earned his first-ever Emmy nomination for his performance in the Lead Actor category. The Supporting Actor category saw nominations for Walton Goggins and Sam Rockwell, while the Supporting Actress category recognised Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, and Natasha Rothwell, who returned to the role of Belinda, earning a repeat nomination after first playing the character in Season 1. Scott Glenn was also honoured with a nomination in the Guest Actor in a Drama Series category.

4. The Studio (2025)

The Studio received 23 nominations for this year’s awards. Set in the competitive world of the entertainment industry, the series offers us a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of a high-profile Hollywood studio. With a star-studded ensemble led by Seth Rogen as Matt Remick, the newly appointed head of Continental Studios, and featuring Catherine O’ Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Bryan Cranston, alongside high-profile celebrity cameos from Martin Scorsese, Olivia Wilde, Anthony Mackie, Steve Buscemi, Zoë Kravitz, and Ron Howard, The Studio has steadily carved its way to the most talked about show of the year.

The series received nominations in several major categories, including four for Seth Rogen (Outstanding Comedy Series, Lead Actor, Writing, and Directing). 5. The Last of Us (2023)

Based on the bestselling video game by Naughty Dog, The Last of Us is a post-apocalyptic survival series that follows Joel, a smuggler tasked with escorting Ellie, a teenage girl immune to the zombie-like infection across state lines in search of a potential cure. The first season was a standout success, receiving 24 Emmy nominations and winning eight awards. While the controversial twists of the second season led to a dip in fanfare, the series has still held its ground among top drama contenders, earning a total of 16 nominations this year.

Despite his limited screen time, Pedro Pascal received a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor. Star Bella Ramsey was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress for their portrayal of Ellie for the second season in a row. The show was also nominated for Outstanding Drama Series. Several cast members received Emmy nominations in Guest Acting categories, including Joe Pantoliano as Eugene, Jeffrey Wright as Isaac, Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, and Catherine O’Hara as Gail. Additional nominations for The Last of Us include awards for Production Design, Casting, Picture Editing, Contemporary Makeup, Prosthetic Makeup, Music Supervision, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, and Special Visual Effects. The series also earned a nod in the Nonfiction Short category for its behind-the-scenes documentary.

6. Andor (2022)

Set five years before the events of Rogue One, the series follows Cassian Andor, a rogue drifter turned rebel operative, as he slowly transforms into one of the Rebellion’s most powerful heroes.

7. Hacks (2021)

Following closely behind The Studio in the comedy category is Hacks, the series that took home the title of Outstanding Comedy Series at the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards. HBO’s sharp-witted, inter-generational comedy-drama explores the clash between Deborah Vance, an aging stand up comic, and Ava Daniels, her young, down on her luck, aspiring comic writer.
