Andor premiered on Disney+ in September, 2022 to extremely positive reviews and was swiftly renewed for a second season to complete the iconic rebel's story. With season 2's production well underway and an expected release in August 2024, we’re starting to get some nuggets of information about the upcoming second installment – including possible cameos from popular Star Wars characters.

The Disney+ series tells the origin story of Cassian Andor, a rebel captain and intelligence officer who took part in the Battle of Scarif and stole the Death Star plans in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The show's narrative follows the lead-up to the events of Rogue One, with season 2 set to be the final season in the series. There aren’t many details available on the upcoming episodes, but showrunner Tony Gilroy has hinted at who we can expect to feature in the upcoming season based on the show's timeline within the franchise.

"You certainly know who’s gonna be on Yavin 4. [Cassian] and Mon Mothma have a scene together in Rogue [One].” Diego Luna plays protagonist Cassian Andor, along with Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma.

In addition to Andor and Mon Mothma, there are characters from season 1 whose storylines are incomplete. It’s likely that Syril Karn, played by Kyle Soller, along with Stellan Skarsgard’s Luthen Rael, Adria Arjona’s Bix Caleen, Riz Ahmed’s Bodhi Rook and maybe even Ben Mendelsohn’s Orson Krennic could appear in season 2.

A photo from the set, posted on Twitter, confirmed that Moroff, the white-haired Gigoran alien who is part of Saw Gerrera’s militant group, will also appear in season 2. We can therefore assume that Gerrera will grow into a larger role in the story too. Saw Gerrera is played by Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker.

Alan Tudyk also confirmed in January 2021 that he will feature in the Andor series, reprising his role as the droid K-2SO from Rogue One. By the time Jyn Erso meets Cassian and K-2SO in Rogue One, the pair are already a tight-knit duo with a friendship reminiscent of Han Solo and Chewbacca from the franchise's original trilogy. It was confirmed that Tudyk wouldn’t be in the first season as K-2SO, but since this is the final season of the series, we can expect him to make an appearance in the upcoming episodes.

Another key player from Rogue One, Felicity Jones, has confirmed that she will not be reprising her role as Jyn Erso. In a BBC interview, Jones said that she “won’t be coming back to the ‘Star Wars’ universe in the near future.” The announcement won't surprise many Andor fans as her character only meets Cassian for the first time after the events of the TV series.

As for other characters crossing over from Rogue One, Imperial office Dedra Meero actor Denise Gough teased that fans can expect more familiar faces to appear. While nothing is confirmed yet, Senator Bail Organa is a likely bet. Bail Organa, the adoptive father of Princess Leia, has been played by Jimmy Smits in Rogue One, Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith and (most recently) the Disney+ TV series Obi-Wan Kenobi.

A release date for Andor season 2 hasn’t been announced yet, but with production wrapping up this summer, we can expect it to arrive in 2024. Season 1 is currently available to stream on Disney+.
