What to know

Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck appear in IT director’s take on the DCEU Speedster

The Flash is a superhero film based on the DC comic book character of the same name directed by Andy Muschietti for Warner Bros. It is the 13th installment within the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and works in continuity with the other films of the universe including Wonder Woman, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. Muschietti is best known for helming the 2017 film adaptation of Stephen King’s novel IT and its sequel in 2019. The former went on to become the highest-grossing horror film of all time. Christina Hodson wrote the screenplay for The Flash based on the story by John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein and Joby Harold. Hodson’s previous screenwriting credits include 2018’s Bumblebee and another DC property with Birds of Prey in 2020.

Ezra Miller portrays the lead role of Barry Allen better known as The Flash. Ron Livingston plays Henry Allen, Barry's father who was wrongly convicted of his wife's murder. The movie features two iconic Batmen, Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck, with Keaton reprising his role as Bruce Wayne from the alternate universe of 1989’s Batman and Batman Returns while Affleck marks his final appearance as Batman in the DCEU after starring as the character in numerous installments. Sasha Calle makes her debut in the DC film universe as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. Michael Shannon reprises his role as a General Zod not killed by Superman in Man of Steel along with his second-in-command, Faora-Ul, with Antje Traue also returning to her previous role. Maribel Verdú and Kiersey Clemons round out the cast.
