What to know

Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays the popular Spider-Man villain in origin movie from A Most Violent Year director

Kraven the Hunter is an upcoming superhero film directed by J. C. Chandor for Sony Pictures. The film is based on the Marvel comics character of the same name and is the fourth entry in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) following Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius. Chandor’s previous directing credits include 2014's A Most Violent Year and Triple Frontier in 2019. Screenwriting duo Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, best known for their work on Iron Man and Uncharted, wrote the film's screenplay along with Richard Wenk. Wenk previously wrote the screenplays for The Equalizer trilogy led by Denzel Washington. Several directors, such as Jon Watts and Ryan Coogler, expressed their interest in bringing Kraven the Hunter into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) until it was ultimately decided for him to have a standalone picture directed by Chandor.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars in the titular role as Kraven the Hunter. He signed a multi-picture deal and expressed his enthusiasm in portraying Kraven, highlighting the character's relatable humanity. Fred Hechinger plays Chameleon, Kraven's half-brother while Ariana DeBose takes on the role of Calypso, Kraven's love interest and a voodoo priestess. The film's primary antagonists are portrayed by Christopher Abbott and Alessandro Nivola. The cast also includes Academy Award winner Russell Crowe and Levi Miller.
