8 Mile (2002)

A white rapper joins the predominantly black Detroit rap scene and works to prove himself in drama starring Eminem

Jimmy lives with his mother in a trailer in Detroit and works at a car factory. His friends encourage him to rap, but at a contest he gets stage fright and is humiliated. Later, he joins a freestyle rap at work and earns respect from his coworkers. As his confidence builds, helped by a burgeoning romance, he visits a recording studio. Eventually, he enlists himself for a huge rap battle that could transform his life, but the competition is fierce.
