Synopsis
History comes to life in Shogun limited series
Two ambitious rivals, Pilot Major John Blackthorne from England and Lord Yoshii Toranaga from Japan, battle each other in ancient Japan for power when Blackthorne finds himself shipwrecked on Japanese shores. Their rivalry is complicated by a mysterious female samurai, Toda Mariko. The series is inspired by real-life events that occurred when William Adams was the first Englishman to arrive in Japan in 1600.

FX produces Shogun series based on James Clavell’s bestselling novel
Shogun is a historical drama epic series on Disney+. Based on James Clavell’s 1975 novel of the same name, the series is created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks. Marks was nominated for the Best Adapted Screenplay Academy Award for his work on Top Gun: Maverick, and also wrote the screenplay for Disney’s live-action The Jungle Book remake.
Cosmo Jarvis stars as Pilot Major John Blackthorne, a fictional character based on the real-life English navigator William Adams who lived from 1564 to 1620. Previous Cosmo Jarvis films include Persuasion and Lady Macbeth. Japanese actor and martial artist Hiroyuki Sanada, known for roles in Westworld, The Last Samurai and Mortal Kombat, co-stars as Lord Yoshii Toranaga, a character based on the real-life Tokugawa Ieyasu. Tokugawa Ieyasu was the founder and first shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate of Japan, and lived from 1543 to 1616. Anna Sawai (Pachinko, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters) plays female samurai Toda Mariko. The large ensemble cast also includes Tadanobu Asano, Fumi Nikaido, Tokuma Nishioka, Takehiro Hira, Ako, Sinnosuke Abe and many more.
