Synopsis

A terrifying tale of an unknowing crew and a cursed ship

Based on Bram Stoker's Dracula, Last Voyage of the Demeter is a frightening account of a voyage recorded in the Captain's Log. The ship, which is under a curse, carries a crew of passengers and sailors who are unaware of what is in the 24 unidentified boxes on board. The crew is haunted by an invisible entity every night and their fate on the journey from Carpathia to London is no longer under their control. From the captain to the castaways, nobody knows what will become of them.

Corey Hawkins leads in supernatural horror film from Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark director

The Last Voyage of the Demeter is a horror film with supernatural elements directed by André Øvredal for Universal Pictures. It is an adaptation of a section of Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula. Specifically, it is based on "The Captain's Log", a self-contained portion of the book that describes a sinister and unsettling enigma that takes place at sea. Øvredal’s previous directing credits include 2016's The Autopsy of Jane Doe and the Guillermo del Toro-produced Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark in 2019. Cinematography on the film is handled by Øvredal’s frequent collaborator, Roman Osin. The screenplay is written by Bragi F. Schut and Zak Olkewicz from a story by Schut. Acclaimed composer, Thomas Newman, handles the film’s music. Newman has previously been nominated for 14 Oscars for his work on such films as Skyfall and 1917.

Corey Hawkins portrays the role of a physician named Clemens who joins the ill-fated voyage on its journey. Aisling Franciosi stars as Anna, a stowaway who is unaware of the supernatural terrors that await her. Liam Cunningham takes on the role of the ship's captain while David Dastmalchian portrays the first mate, Wojchek. Javier Botet, Jon Jon Briones, Stefan Kapičić, Nikolai Nikolaeff, Woody Norman, Martin Furulund, Chris Walley and Nicolo Pasetti round out the cast.
