F1 The Movie (2025)

If you think Formula 1 is a bit dull (like I do), then F1 The Movie might sound boring too. Instead, it's turned out to be one of the most thrilling action vehicles of the year, and a huge part of that is down to Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski who revs up every race like it's the last ever raced. Brad Pitt helps, of course, bringing his usual A-list charm, and the same goes for Javier Bardem too. Is it a bit cliched at times? Sure, but, that hardly matters, though, when the thrills are thrilling and the popcorn is popcorning as hard as it does here in one of 2025's best blockbusters

Much like Joseph Kosinski's impeccable Top Gun: Maverick, F1: The Movie is quite simply a rip-roaring good time at the cinema. Honestly, watching those fast cars zoom around the track on a massive IMAX screen was the perfect reminder as to why the cinematic experience must be preserved at all costs. I lost count of the amount of times I sat up in my chair, grinning like a fool, as Brad Pitt and Damson Idris pulled ludicrous manoeuvres on the race track. It may lack some of the substance and emotion of Maverick, and doesn't quite have that epic finale it needs, but it's still so much fun.

Packed to the brim with movie stars, product placement, screenwriting cliches, and the highest-spec, video-game-coded action imaginable, F1 might just be showing us the future of summer movies. Depending on your taste, that might be concerning news, but how can we complain when it looks this good? Joseph Kosinski has built on the world-conquering success of Top Gun: Maverick with a movie that places you in the seat of a Formula 1 race car so convincingly, you almost smell the tires burning. Needless to say, this should be seen on the biggest screen with the loudest system you can find.
