Tender biopic following Richard Burton’s rise to acting star 

Richard Jenkins, a teenager whose mother died young and whose father’s absent and an alcoholic, lives in a Welsh mining town with his loving sister. His schoolmaster, Philip Burton, sees talent in Richard, who’s delighted to be given Shakespeare to read as a punishment, and begins to nurture it. Richard struggles with alcohol and the pressures of the elitist acting world as he starts to gain recognition, but he persists, buoyed by Philip’s unwavering support.
