Severance (2022)

First of all, you need to see what all the fuss is about: this is one of those where reviews and recommendations can never really capture the unique vibe of the show. When you get to that super-intriguing, beautifully tense first episode, you’ll be hooked by a clever and thought-provoking premise, and direction - by Ben Stiller! - that makes every scene an innovative visual treat, regardless of what’s happening. For the first season especially, it’s extremely artful but supremely entertaining at the same time.

Simply put, Severance is one of the two best TV shows to grace the small screen in the 2020s – only Succession can compete at this point. The beauty of Severance is the way it keeps viewers guessing from episode to episode, and even though it’s almost impossible to know which direction the show is heading, we enjoy the ride all the more. What started as a quirky sci-fi mystery has now evolved into a twisted love story in season two, with elements of espionage and conspiracy. Think Ex Machina meets The Truman Show and you’re as close as you can get to defining this cerebral enigma of a TV show.
