Most sci-fi fans know Wil Wheaton as Wesley Crusher on “Star Trek: The Next Generation” (1987–1994), boldly going where few teenage ensigns had gone before. But he was at play among the stars long before then. His first true claim to fame was as the sensitive Gordie in Rob Reiner’s coming-of-age classic “Stand by Me” (1986), a role he parlayed into his recurring one on TNG. Before and after those parts, Wheaton established himself as a mainstay in voice acting, cutting his teeth in the classic film “The Secret of NIMH” (1982). He would later lend his tones to animated hits like “Teen Titans” (2003–2006) and “Ben 10” (2005–2008), among many others. New fans will recognize Wheaton for his presence on “The Big Bang Theory” (2009–2019), playing a more “evil” version of himself. On top of his ever-welcome cameos, Wheaton spends most of his days now hosting shows and podcasts that explore the nerdiest parts of the pop culture universe.
