Synopsis

These are not your average, everyday, run-of-the-mill antiheroes

Sometimes villainous and sometimes virtuous, these highly skilled specials have been selected very carefully. Studied, chosen, and set on assignment by the Contessa, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, the Thunderbolts are the ragtag rogues that the agencies turn to in the absence of the Avengers. Winter Soldier, Bucky Barnes, continues his long-running redemption arc and is the de facto leader of the Thunderbolts. U.S. Agent, John Walker, could be looking to make amends for past mistakes by joining the Thunderbolts. Super-spy Yelena Belova and her super soldier father-figure, Red Guardian are also in the lineup. Joining them is Taskmaster, a superhuman capable of perfect mimicry, and Ghost, a quantum jumping intangible being. With most superheroes dispersed on all forms of intergalactic and multiversal missions the market for superhuman defense is wide open. This assemblage of sometimes corrupt but persuadable mercenaries is now the most reliable outfit for the task at hand. But can they stick it out together or will the appearing cracks split them open before the end?

What to know

Jake Schreier makes his MCU debut as the director of Thunderbolts starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Harrison Ford

Thunderbolts is an upcoming superhero action movie developed by Marvel Studios. It is set to finish Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is the thirty-seventh title in the franchise. Continuing a trend of plucking for well-loved indie filmmakers, Marvel Studios opts for Jack Schreier to direct this villainous team-up adventure. Schreier will be bringing to life a script written by Lee Sung Jin.

The cast of this supervillain team-up movie includes Sebastian Stan once again reprising his role as Bucky Barnes and Wyatt Russell as John Walker, U.S. Agent. Both had feature roles in Falcon and The Winter Solider and return to continue their dynamic. Emmy Award-winning actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus is the Contessa, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine who is scheming this team together. Florence Pugh and David Harbour are Yelena Belova and Red Guardian respectively. Both are joined by Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster and Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr, Ghost. Veteran actor Harrison Ford stars as Thunderbolt Ross. Geraldine Viswanathan stars in an undisclosed role.
