Prepare for the elek-trifying wordplay that will be uttered in Deadpool 3 as Jennifer Garner is set to join the upcoming film.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals the talented actress will reprise her role as Elektra Natchios in the highly anticipated threequel. She joins lead star Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, who is also reprising his previously celebrated role as Wolverine, in the film that is currently in production. With the additions of Jackman and Garner, Deadpool 3 seems to be collecting a number of actors who have had previous experiences portraying popular Marvel characters. She worked with Reynolds and Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy on Netflix’s The Adam Project which she described as being “the best movie experience ever.” She also starred with Jackman in 2011’s Butter.

Garner first appeared as the character in 2003’s Daredevil which saw her paired with Ben Affleck and subsequently starred in an Elektra standalone film two years later. Although the latter did not receive much critical or financial success, Garner remains one of the few who have been able to star in a female-led superhero film. During an interview in 2021, she revealed wishing that Marvel President Kevin Feige was involved in the previous films:

“It’s such a shame, honestly, because once Kevin took over everything there was elevated: the writing, the direction, the comedy inside of the stories they were telling… And I did not have that experience.”

Feige is a producer on the upcoming Deadpool installment meaning Garner must feel ecstatic she has the opportunity to work alongside him.

Prepare for the eagerly awaited third entry into the Deadpool franchise, where we'll be treated to the return of Ryan Reynolds as the titular Merc with a Mouth, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, Stefan Kapičić lending his voice to Colossus and Rob Delaney as Peter.

Deadpool 3 also introduces the talents of Emma Corrin, poised to portray the film's villain, and Matthew Macfadyen, whose role remains unknown.

Deadpool 3 will be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.
