The Marvels is a superhero film and the 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Directed by Nia DaCosta, who is known for Candyman and Little Woods, the film is produced by Marvel Studios and Disney. DaCosta is the youngest director to helm a Marvel movie, taking the record away from Ryan Coogler (Black Panther). The Marvels takes place following the events of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, where character Kamala Khan AKA Ms. Marvel unearths her Djinn ancestry. Viewers have also been introduced to the other titular Marvel, Monica Rambeau, in WandaVision. The Marvels screenplay was written by DaCosta with Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik and Zeb Wells.

Academy Award winner Brie Larson returns as Carol Danvers/ Captain Marvel, co-starring with Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/ Ms. Marvel, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. British actor Zawe Ashton (Velvet Buzzsaw, Fresh Meat) and South Korean actor Park Seo-joon (Itaewon Class, Kill Me, Heal Me) join the cast as fresh faces in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh and Zenobia Shroff reprise their roles from Ms. Marvel. Carol’s pet Flerken, Goose, also returns for the sequel.
