Russell Crowe stars in the story of Father Gabriele Amorth – the Vatican's chief exorcist 

Father Gabriele Amorth has had a strange and mysterious occupation throughout his life. Deep inside the Vatican, beneath labyrinthine hallways decked in opulence, this Catholic priest has been practicing a dark art. Under the guidance of the Pope, the Church is battling the dangerous possessive power of Satan. On a mission to deliver the righteous from the throes of evil, this is the story of Father Gabriele Amorth.

In the church's ongoing fight against evil, Father Amorth is the chief exorcist. This real-life figure performed over 100,000 exorcisms from World War II through to the internet age.

The Pope’s Exorcist is a supernatural horror thriller film based on the real-life memoirs of Father Gabriele Amorth. The movie is directed by Julius Avery, who is best known for directing Samaritan and Overlord. The Pope's Exorcist adapts the books An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories by Gabriele Amorth.

The movie features legendary Hollywood actor Russell Crowe in the lead role as a gifted Catholic priest. Beloved Italian actor Franco Nero is cast as the Pope, while Alex Essoe and Daniel Zovatto also feature. Laurel Marsden, Cornell S. John, and Peter DeSouza-Feighoney make up the expanded cast. The movie originally had Angel Gomez attached to direct and had been early in its production phase before a new director and screenwriter were brought in. Much of the original work has been kept in by the new creative team. The Pope's Exorcist was released in theaters on April 14th, 2023.
