Stepfather of the iconic artist and activist Tupac Shakur, Dr. Mutulu Shakur was the protagonist in his own incredible story. In the early 1970s, the Black Panthers and the Young Lords joined forces to focus on the health of their local community that was being ravaged by drug problems. Their solution was to open up a community acupuncture clinic to help detoxify the people and combat the growing substance abuse situated in a wider demand for free healthcare for all. Through archive footage and interviews, this documentary explores the radical politics of healing that was central to the work of Dr. Mutulu Shakur and his hopeful contemporaries.
