After suffering a terrible loss as a teenager, Kikuo dedicates his life to kabuki

As a teenager, Kikuo suffers the traumatic loss of his father, who was the infamous head of a Yakuza gang. Adopted by a renowned kabuki star, Hanjiro Hanai, Kikuo undertakes a thorough and disciplined training in traditional Japanese theater, developing into a talented performer. Over the course of a decades-long career, Kikuo competes with Hanjiro’s son Shunsuke for the limelight and the title of “ningen kokuho,” living national treasure.
