Zack Synder gets his scrapped Star Wars pitch off the ground with Netflix

Rebel Moon: A Child of Fire is a sci-fi epic fantasy film directed and written by Zack Synder. Rebel Moon: A Child of Fire is the first in a two-part movie event produced by Zack and Deborah Synder through their production company The Stone Quarry in association with Grand Electric. The script for the film is written by Zack Synder, Kurt Johnstad (300, 300: Rise of an Empire, Atomic Blonde) and Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead, Army of Thieves, John Wick Chapter 3). The original idea for the film was pitched to Lucasfilm as a Star Wars film with a more mature take on the universe. However after Lucasfilms acquisition by the Walt Disney Company in 2012, the pitch was scrapped and Synder began developing the project with Netflix.

The film is led by Algerian actress Sofia Boutella. known for her roles in Atomic Blonde and Climax. She is joined by Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Ray Fisher, Jena Malone, Doona Bae and Anthony Hopkins in a star-studded ensemble cast.  Rebel Moon: A Child of Fire was released on December 21, 2023 on Netflix.
