Stanley Ipkiss is a shy and mild-mannered man who works as a bank clerk. One day, he encounters a magical wooden mask, tries it on, and is suddenly transformed into an agent of chaos who is charming and mischievous in equal measure. When he meets Tina Carlyle, a beautiful singer, he can’t help but woo her, even if she is the girlfriend of dangerous gangster Dorian Tyrell. Sparks fly when Dorian tries to rob the bank and Stanley, wearing the Mask, gets there first.
